Traditionally this works using single or multiple ISDN lines (though where ISDN is not available, other transport mechanisms may be used, such as satellite). A switched network, ISDN works in a similar fashion to a telephone call. You dial the number of the system and a connection is made. The industry standard for a system that works in this way is called H.320. Nearly all systems available today are compliant with this standard and can therefore call each other. Many systems can also be used in a network environment, see IP Communications for information on this. The advantage of switched, ISDN conferencing is that you can call any other compliant system anywhere in the world. The vast majority of all videoconferencing uses this method. Digital TRAFFIC can help you find the right solution and ensure it is used effectively and to best advantage with your organization.
